Gladiator: Champion of the arena "Spaniard"

Or "Hispanicus", but Spaniard sounds cooler. Obviously sculpted as Maximus from the Gladiator movie, the miniature is from Crusader Miniatures. It came without a shield so I took one of the round shields that came in another blister and trimmed down the surface to make it flat, shields are too good not to be included in a Gladiators profile - but the model also looked a bit boring without it.

Another thing, this model appears to be sculpted slightly smaller than the regular Gladiators - I see the same difference in size on the "Condemned men" blister which I also bought. I don't know if these models have been sculpted by someone else or for some other range initially. The difference in size is not godawful, but it is apparent when you place two models next to each other. Thankfully you don't see it as much when looking at them from a topdown perspective.

He will also use the basic Primus Palus/Arena Champion profile but with the added "Safe Bet", "Shield Bash" and "Finding Weak spots" perks from my house rule PDF document.

  1. That's a perfect looking Spaniard. Hopefully his story ends better than Maxiumus'.

  3. Very nicely done, but will he be victorious in a fight with the giant? (Only the dice know!)

  6. Looks really good! Perhaps he is just a short gladiator? There must have been some of those. I think I'll save my sestertii and keep putting my bets on "Pallas"...
